Meet the Interns: Kara Husmann

Prairie State Generating Company is excited to welcome Kara Husmann as an accounting intern for the summer of 2017.

Husmann is a native of Carlyle, Illinois, and a senior studying accounting at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville. This is her second internship at Prairie State; she worked with accounting during tax season earlier this spring. Husmann said she wanted to return because of the relationships she built with the people at Prairie State’s corporate office.

“I learned a lot about corporate and financial accounting,” she said. “I liked the tax internship, but I also like the financial side of things. I got really close with the office. Everyone is really nice and they make you feel more like a full time employee than an intern. I came back to learn some more and hopefully be hired here full time.”

Husmann said she loves accounting and the daily tasks and duties at Prairie State. She completes daily bank reconciliation reports, helps close financial statements at the end of each month and assists with processing of work orders through Maximo. She said she likes accounting and how straightforward the accounting process is. Currently her big project for the summer is a compliance assurance review.

“Accounting fascinates me,” Husmann said. “You learn so much just by doing your day-to-day tasks.”
