Meet the Intern: Payton Spohn

Prairie State Generating Company is pleased to welcome Payton Spohn as a mining intern for the summer of 2018.

Spohn is from Ozark, Missouri, and attends Missouri S&T.  He just completed his sophomore year in the geological engineering program.  He began at S&T as a petroleum engineering major, and he changed his specialization after taking a geology class his freshman year.  At S&T, Spohn is a member of the eco-miners, a group that encourages recycling and campus clean up.  He is also involved in the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists.

Spohn applied for the mining internship after seeing PSGC at a career fair.  He thought it would be a good opportunity to learn about different aspects of mining.

This summer, he will work his way through different areas of mining, such as drilling and surveying.  “I am interested in learning about the processes of the mine and daily operations.”

After completing this internship, Spohn will return to Missouri S&T, where he will graduate in two years.  He hopes to apply what he has learned at PSGC in his future career search.
