Prairie State Generating Company is excited to welcome Charly Meister as the finance intern for the summer of 2018.
Meister, from Marissa, Illinois, is an accounting major at Southeast Missouri State University. There, she is a member of Beta Alpha Psi, an accounting fraternity. Meister said she chose accounting due to her experience with it in class. “I like how straightforward it is. I enjoy working in excel and learning about accounting programs.”
After completing a tax internship at Hillin and Company in the spring, Meister was in search of a finance internship for the summer. She found Prairie State to be a good fit in terms of offering and proximity to her hometown. About the program, Meister said, “I know one of Prairie State’s former interns, and after hearing about their experience I thought the company would be a good fit for me too.”
This summer, Meister will be assisting the finance department by completing monthly financial closings and inputting labor hours into a program called Maximo. She is excited to gain real world experience; her duties at Prairie State will be different than those in a classroom setting.
Meister will graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in May 2019. She has thought about attending college for another year in order to get the credit hours needed to sit for the CPA exam. In the future, she would like to explore a career in a bigger city.
