Meet the Intern: Jessi Velino

Prairie State is pleased to welcome Jessi Velino as the Mechanical Maintenance Intern this summer!

Jessi attends Clemson University and is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. She chose this major because it interests her to understand why things work the way they do. “I never used to think about how things would work, like a car or treadmill, I would just expect it to work. It’s cool taking it piece by piece and so I wanted to take on a position like this, where I get to take stuff apart and put it together before I go into designing it.”

While attending Clemson, Jessi is part of the Alpha Phi sorority. Her past work experiences include Buffalo Wild Wings, Macy’s, and Pier One. In her free time, she likes to play pickleball and hang out with friends and family.

Jessi chose Prairie State because of the experience it will provide for her future careers. Although it is not directly related to what her career would be, she thought it would be a good starting place to fully understand the position. Her favorite question to asks employers is, “How could this have been made better to make your job easier?” This question gives her insight to the designs that she will create during her career.

Jessi will return to Clemson in the fall to complete her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. When she graduates, she hopes to find a job in mechanical engineering and design.
