Meet the Intern: Ben Twitchell

Prairie State is excited to welcome Ben Twitchell as the Mechanical Maintenance Intern this summer!

This fall, Ben will return to Southern Illinois University (SIU). He will be entering his junior year studying mechanical engineering.

Ben chose to study mechanical engineering because it offers many opportunities in the automotive industry. In his free time, he enjoys working on cars and older motorcycles.

At SIU, Ben is the secretary for Saluki Formula Racing, a Formula Society of Automotive Engineers (FSAE) team. He is also the president of the College of Engineering, Computing, Technology, and Mathematics Student Council. Ben currently works at the SIU Achieve program, where he tutors neurodiverse students.

Ben chose Prairie State because he believes this internship offers more hands-on opportunities. It is also fairly close to his home. When asked what he is expecting this summer, he said, “I am looking forward to learning how the plant is operated, as well as applying an engineering student’s point of view to mechanical maintenance.”

In Spring 2025, Ben plans to graduate from SIU. He hopes to then start his career in automotive design engineering.
