Intern Check-In: Charly Meister

Finance intern Charly Meister has spent her summer at Prairie State learning how different areas of the accounting department work.

Meister has been involved in compiling monthly financial reports to send to Prairie State’s owners, as well as entering labor hours in to a program called Maximo.

Meister has prior experience with public accounting, and this internship has given her a better insight into the corporate world.  She has enjoyed getting experience from a different side of accounting.

Her favorite part of this internship so far has been the people.  “I really appreciate that my coworkers don’t treat me like I’m an intern.  I’m performing tasks that are necessary for the company.”  In addition to her own duties, she has assisted coworkers when needed.

One of her projects has been to standardize processes throughout the department.  Meister has learned about many different accounting programs, as well as gaining in-depth experience with Microsoft Excel.

Her time management skills have improved greatly.  “Since everything has a different deadline, it is important to know what you need to work on and how much time you can dedicate to one task.”

In the future, Meister would prefer a career in corporate accounting.
