Meet the Interns: Andrew Williams

Prairie State Generating Company is excited to welcome Andrew Williams as an information technology intern for the summer of 2017.

Williams, a senior at Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville, joined the Prairie State team later than the other interns, but is already contributing to the Prairie State team by helping with software installation and reconfiguring work stations. He has worked with the infrastructure and helpdesk teams so far on campus.

“I don’t know what I want to do within IT yet,” Williams said. “The team here is smaller, so I get to try a little bit of everything. Working with the team and getting to pick their brains is an advantage to me so that I can get a feel for some different systems.”

He said he is interested in networks and could see himself working as a network administrator in the future. The IT sector is appealing because of the plethora of job opportunities. Every industry from power generation to retail will likely need the assistance of an IT team at some point. Williams has one year left of college before he can begin his job search, but he is already taking steps towards finding a job by completing IT certifications this summer that will help make him a more viable candidate next summer.

In his free time, Williams likes to be outside, something that he says is different from the typical IT person. He plays slow pitch softball, goes hunting and hikes.
