Meet the Intern: Carter Grass

Prairie State is excited to welcome Carter Grass as the Electrical Maintenance Intern for the summer!

Carter is from Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, and is entering his second year this fall at Ranken Technical College, where he is studying electrical automation and control systems. His interest in the field began after speaking with professionals in the electrical industry and touring power plants which led him to pursue a career in electrical maintenance. He is eager to apply the skills he has learned at school to real situations within his role here. Outside of work and school, Carter enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors.

Carter chose Prairie State after hearing positive feedback from a friend who previously interned here. “One of my friends did an internship here and said he learned so much from the experience that it set him up for success when he entered the workforce,” Carter shared. “I wanted to work somewhere that could teach and show me everything I am learning in school, so I decided to apply to Prairie State.”

Throughout the summer, Carter hopes to strengthen his troubleshooting abilities, gain more experience working with PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and continue developing his communication skills. He is especially excited about learning alongside experienced team members and gaining a deeper understanding of plant operations. “My favorite part so far is following my supervisor around the plant. I know he can teach me everything I need to know about the job and more,” Carter said.

By the end of his internship, Carter’s goal is to become more efficient in troubleshooting, enhance his communication skillset, and continue building the technical knowledge that will help prepare him for a successful career in the electrical industry.

We’re excited to have Carter here this summer and look forward to seeing all he accomplishes during his internship experience!
