Meet the Intern: Shanthan Mandadi

Prairie State Generating Company is pleased to welcome Shanthan Mandadi as a Coal Combustion Residuals intern for the summer of 2018.

Mandadi is from Hyderabad, India.  He just completed his second year in the Master’s Program for mechanical engineering at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (SIU-C).  During his undergraduate studies, he was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, and the Institution of Engineers (India).

This is Mandadi’s third internship; his first two internships were completed with the Defense Research and Development Laboratory in India, where he worked as a design intern.  “I found Prairie State at the SIU-C career fair last spring, and I applied for the second time this year.”

During this internship, Mandadi will be working on projects to expand the fly ash handling unit, as well as brainstorming how to market the sale of fly ash.  “I have learned many new things in the past few weeks, and I am excited to continue to learn.”

Mandadi hopes to finish his thesis this summer.  After completing his thesis on solid oxide fuel cells, he will look for a career in mechanical engineering.
