Prairie State Generating Company is excited to welcome John Park as the electrical maintenance intern for the summer of 2018.
Park, from Steeleville, Illinois, is a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He is currently enrolled in the Industrial Electronics program at Southwestern Illinois College. Park has experience in power plant operations, and he recently decided to pursue electrical maintenance.
Since Prairie State’s inception, Park has known about the company. He knew people who were contractors hired to build the energy campus. “I like that the campus is new, because it gives me the opportunity to work with the latest and greatest electrical components.”
This will be a busy summer for Park, as he will be troubleshooting, replacing motors and filters, and assisting current Prairie State employees. He estimates that he has already worked with over 50 electrical components so far. “This internship will expose me to hundreds of different challenges with electronics. It is interesting to see how classwork relates to this hands-on experience.”
In the future, Park would like to become an industrial electrician in the power generation industry.
