Meet the Intern: Brycen Dhom

Prairie State Generating Company is excited to welcome Brycen Dhom as a mining intern for the summer of 2018.

Dhom grew up in Newton, Illinois.  He attends Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville (SIU-E) as an electrical engineering major.  His interest in electrical engineering grew from his grandfather’s aspirations in the field.  At SIU-E, he is on a team that created a car powered by solar energy.  He is also a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.

In the past, his work has been labor intensive; this internship will improve his knowledge and skills.  “I am excited to experience the hands-on aspect of maintenance, as well as the control that engineering has on the whole mine.”  He is interested to learn how collaboration ensures the mine operates smoothly.

Dhom chose PSGC after hearing about the internship from his sister, who was in the program last year.  “She said that everyone was very friendly; the company thought of people as individuals, rather than just another worker.”  This internship will take him through various specializations in maintenance, and he will be working under multiple mentors.

In the fall, he will return to SIU-E for two more years to complete his degree.  He hopes that this internship will give him the knowledge he needs to make a career choice.
