Intern Update: Chance Nuernberger

Plant Maintenance Intern, Chance Nuernberger, has spent his summer at Prairie State working with electrical and mechanical maintenance technicians.

A typical day for Chance includes working with one employee on whichever job duties they are assigned for that day. One project was replacing conduit by the vacuum drums and running wire through the conduit. This task was completed within the week.

Chance has enjoyed working with different people throughout his internship, along with the variety of tasks. “My favorite part has probably been gaining knowledge from all the employees I’ve worked with, along with getting experience from both the electrical and mechanical side.”

This summer, Chance has learned how to do different jobs. “I’ve also learned how to use critical thinking skills when things don’t go your way.”

His future plans remain in electrical, though this internship has taught him that the mechanical side of maintenance is different from what he thought. Chance will return to Southwestern Illinois College this fall, where he is studying industrial electricity. He is hoping to finish his education before starting his career as an electrician.
