Meet the Intern: Rowen Brunner

Prairie State is excited to welcome Rowen Brunner as the Information Technology Intern for the summer!

Rowen is from Belleville, Illinois, and is currently pursuing a degree in computer engineering with a minor in computer science. He will be entering his junior year this fall at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Rowen shared his passion for technology started at a young age. Fascinated by computer systems and how they work, he quickly realized he wanted to turn that interest into a career. “I really liked computer systems when I was younger. I decided that if I loved it so much, why not go into a field where I get to work with computers all the time?” he shared.

He also enjoys problem-solving and has always been the go-to person for technical support at home. “If there was ever an issue with computers, my mom would rely on me to fix it,” he said. “I love solving problems with computers in general. Figuring out the solution and understanding how computers work will always be intriguing to me.”

Throughout his first weeks here at Prairie State, Rowen has been imaging computers and distributing upgraded devices to employees across the campus. He has enjoyed his work so far, but Rowen is also interested to see how this summer will continue to challenge him. “I’m excited to just be here and have this opportunity,” Rowen said. “I’m looking forward to learning all the ins and outs of this field.”

Outside of the workplace, Rowen stays active with a variety of hobbies and extracurricular activities. He enjoys bowling, golfing, playing video games, and participating in intramural sports at Mizzou, including basketball and soccer. He is also involved in the university’s Surf Club which deals in underwater robotics, giving him a wide range of interests.

Throughout the summer, Rowen hopes to expand his overall knowledge of information technology by learning from different departments and gaining insight into the day-to-day responsibilities of IT professionals. “I am excited to learn from each department what their tasks and goals are,” he said. “I feel that I can take the skills they teach me and use them in future career opportunities.”

We’re excited to have Rowen here this summer and look forward to seeing all he accomplishes during his internship experience!
