Mechanical Maintenance Intern, Tyler Lunning, has been gaining hands-on work experience throughout the plant. Whether it’s changing oil in limestone pumps or swapping out air filters, each task is a fresh opportunity to learn and grow in the field.
No two days look the same for Tyler, and that is exactly why he chose this career field. “I’m doing a little bit of everything,” he says. “It’s exciting, every day brings something new.” The internship has him moving throughout the entire plant, handling a wide variety of small but critical tasks that keep operations running smoothly. He especially appreciates the one-on-one time he gets with experienced workers in the shop. “Everyone gets along well, and I’ve learned so much just by asking questions. They’ve been great about offering support and guidance.”
While he wouldn’t mind spending time in the office, it’s the fieldwork that really drives his passion. Seeing how systems work and fixing real issues gives him valuable experience he can apply back at school. “Everything I’ve done so far has been beneficial,” he reflects. “There’s always a new chance, a new day to learn something.”
With his sights set on a career in mechanical maintenance, ideally balancing time in the field and the office, this internship has been the perfect opportunity for him to get a foot in the door and truly understand what the work entails. “Being able to work with my hands, learn something new every day, and actually contribute to the company is what makes this internship so rewarding.” Tyler still plans to pursue a career in mechanical maintenance.
