Mechanical Engineering Intern, Gage Heil, has spent his summer working on a broad range of engineering projects and drawings.
Gage has been building PI graphics for heat transfer and the lube oil skids, modifying piping and instrumentation diagrams, sorting and adding drawings in Document Locator, and developing piping layouts for the burner floor, among other things. While he has finished some projects, there are some still in progress and others that came to an inconclusive end dues to outside factors.
During his internship, Gage has learned a lot. He has learned about the detailed process that takes place to generate power, along with the complex environmental controls in place at Prairie State. He says, “I really enjoyed seeing and learning about the different processes for analyzing what caused shutdowns and looking for possible solutions.”
This internship has not changed Gage’s opinion on mechanical engineering. He plans to finish his mechanical engineering degree and find a career in the field. He is unsure which industry he’d like to work in, but he is more interested in the power generation industry due to this internship.
