Intern Update: Cole Dickerson

Information Technology (IT) Intern, Cole Dickerson, has been a valuable part of the IT department this summer, contributing to a wide range of initiatives both within his department and across campus.

His internship experience has been dynamic and hands-on, including shadowing various IT roles, traveling to the plant and mine to resolve technical issues, providing helpdesk support, and answering phone calls. Each day presents new challenges, requiring Cole to adapt and apply his skills in different environments.

“Some days I am involved in high-pressure situations requiring immediate solutions, while other days are more routine and desk-based,” Cole explains. “It’s a great balance that keeps the work engaging, and I really enjoy working with such an amazing IT team.”

Cole’s main goals during his internship have been to soak up as much knowledge as possible from the experienced team around him and to leave his mark. He values the opportunity to learn from a team with years of experience solving complex IT issues. From working with other professionals and helping assist with technical issues, he feels that he is leaving a positive mark in his position.

“What I’ve really learned is the importance of coming in with a positive attitude and taking the time to truly listen to the people you’re helping. That goes a long way,” Cole shares.

Through his internship, Cole has strengthened his technical skills and learned the value of teamwork in the IT department. His experience of resolving real world technical issues makes him more eager to start his career. Cole still plans to pursue a career in cybersecurity or information technology.
