Intern Update: Brady Kuhl

Electrical Engineering Intern, Brady Kuhl, has spent his summer supporting the plant’s electrical systems. His position focuses on making systems sturdier and more reliable. Whether he’s revising drawings, switching out components, or fine-tuning circuits, Brady’s overall goal is to help improve all electrical systems in the plant.

Brady has been working on drawings for the electrical systems, revising past projects with current data, and learning from his supervisors. He’s currently working on converting air compressors from 480V to 120V, a full system shift that adds extra reliability and flexibility for operations. This also involves adding fuses and time delays into the circuits to protect against outages. One of the more hands-on parts of his internship has been testing shaft voltage on the Unit 2 turbine.

Brady favorite part of his internship has been the opportunity to learn how all the components at the plant come together to generate power, and how different sources can be used to accomplish the same task. He’s been able to see the bigger picture of power generation, all while deepening his understanding of the individual parts that make it work. Brady comes in with an open mind, ready to learn every day. When someone uses abbreviations or technical terms he doesn’t recognize, Brady is not afraid to ask. “There’s always a specialist who knows the system inside and out,” he says. “And they’re always willing to explain.”

Brady Kuhl has proven to be an asset to the electrical engineering team, contributing meaningfully to both ongoing projects and long-term system improvements. Brady continues to grow as an engineer while supporting the plant’s mission of maintaining reliable and efficient electrical systems. He still plans to pursue a career in electrical engineering.
