Meet the Intern: Wyatt Espenschied

Prairie State is excited to welcome Wyatt Espenschied as the Electrical Maintenance Intern for the summer!

Wyatt is from Freeburg, Ilinois, and is currently pursuing a degree in industrial electricity. He will be entering his sophomore year at Southwestern Illinois College (SWIC) this fall. Wyatt chose this field because of its long-term stability and the hands-on opportunities it provides. He enjoys learning how electrical systems work and is especially interested in troubleshooting and solving problems step by step. “I like that every work order we get each day is different, which gives me a chance to learn something new,” Wyatt shared.

Wyatt is eager to gain real-world exposure and continue building his technical skills. During his time at Prairie State, he hopes to strengthen his understanding of industrial electrical systems and PLCs while improving his communication and teamwork skills in a professional environment. “I could always see the plant stack from my home, which made me curious about how the facility operates and the kind of electrical maintenance work done here. This ultimately led me to choose Prairie State for an internship,” he said.

Wyatt has enjoyed the supportive learning environment and appreciates the opportunity to learn from experienced employees throughout the facility. He values being able to work hands-on while gaining confidence in the field through different experiences.

Outside of school, Wyatt enjoys farming, boating, fishing, and trap shooting. He is also a member of the SWIC Honors Society. Wyatt’s goal within this internship experience is to continue building a strong foundation in electrical maintenance and to be prepared to start a successful career in the industry.

We are excited to have Wyatt here this summer and look forward to seeing all he accomplishes during his internship experience!
