In pursuit of VPP Star site status, Prairie State employees regularly attend VPPPA (Voluntary Protection Program Participants’ Association) conferences. Above is a group of our employees at the 2019 VPPPA National Conference in New Orleans.
Prairie State’s power plant is proud to participate in the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), a system established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to promote effective worksite-based safety and health.
The VPP sets performance-based criteria for a managed safety and health system. To be approved, sites must go through a rigorous onsite evaluation by OSHA staff.
VPP Star Certification recognizes employers and employees who demonstrate exemplary achievement in the prevention and control of occupational safety and health hazards. It also requires that they focus on the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of their safety and health management system. Continuous improvement in safety is the key to becoming a VPP Star site. We want Prairie State to continually improve its overall safety program.
The goal of Prairie State’s VPP Committee is to get every employee from the plant to be involved in safety and health training, as well as to educate people on the functions of the VPP.
